Building on sister company FDS' work with Serco on improving 'streetscene' services, 3000ft have been working with the New Local Government Network to develop an entirely new approach to researching local area perceptions, that we call 'geo-psychology'. The results of a pilot study in the Archway area are presented in a new report published yesterday (8th July) by the NLGN, The Word on the Streetscene - Transforming Local Neighbourhoods.

"While geographic and geo-demographic approaches give us some insight into the nature of areas and individuals living in them, administrative units such as local area districts or postcode boundaries rarely correspond to subjective localities - the areas and boundaries that people actually perceive around them.
Our exciting new methodology has myriad applications - from anticipating uptake of location-based services to combating gang violence, from guiding improvements to council street-services, to getting improved ROI from outdoor advertising.
It allows us to collect any number of individual subjective accounts of local areas (or 'psycho-geographies') and then cost-effectively map and aggregate them, transforming what was previously a purely qualitative research paradigm into a systematic and robust approach, which allows us to really understand how perceptions of local areas vary, from street corner to street corner, and between different demographic segments."
