Qualitative Business Research

Enterprise Management Incentives (EMIs) are tax-advantaged share options introduced in the Finance Act 2000 and designed to help smaller higher risk companies recruit and retain employees.

FDS completed a large scale qualitative research programme among organisations using EMIs to help HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) understand experience and attitudes.

We found that EMI schemes were for the most part being used as intended: to retain and attract important staff. The flexibility and versatility to shape plans within EMIs was appreciated.
