FDS research is front page news for Carbon Trust
Towards the end of 2007 FDS International carried out a “state of the nation” insight into the attitudes of UK businesses towards to CO2 emissions and climate change on behalf of the Carbon Trust.
The Carbon Trust is a private company set up by government in response to the threat of climate change, to accelerate the transition to a low carbon economy. The Carbon Trust works with UK business and the public sector to create practical business-focused solutions to help explain, deliver, develop, create and finance low carbon enterprise.
700 business leaders from a representative sample of UK businesses were interviewed; drawn from across the spectrum of business sizes from FTSE companies to smaller businesses with less than 50 employees. Interviews were conducted via telephone from FDS’ London call centre.
The research showed that climate change has already impacted on more than a quarter of all UK businesses; It is also clear that FTSE companies are leading the way on addressing climate change.
Almost half of the FTSE companies surveyed know their carbon footprint and two thirds have a plan or policy in place to cut carbon emissions. Comparative statistics demonstrate the FTSE vanguard movement; only 1% of all UK business knows their carbon footprint and a third have a plan or policy in place to cut emissions.
